Theory of Knowledge: Pre- and post-lesson support for IB TOK students and teachers.

QUOMODO SCIMUS - TOK

Quomodo Scimus began in 2022 as a section somewhat buried in my history teaching website. In the summer of 2026 I decided it had outgrown its origins and needed a dedicated home. "Quomodo scimus" is Latin for "How do we know?", the fundamental question concerning epistemology, meaning, and the methods and tools through which we acquire knowledge. In philosophy this is also known as the theory of knowledge. The name Quomodo Scimus was chosen by my daughter who felt that it sounded like a spell from Harry Potter.

Quomodo Scimus is made by Richard Jones-Nerzic, a Welsh history teacher currently based in Nyon, Switzerland, teaching the Swiss Maturite Federale and the International Baccalaureate at Ecole Moser. I have taught TOK for about 20 years, film studies for almost as long and history for considerably longer. This is my fourth teaching website. You can read these historical 'about' pages if you really want to know more.  The first two, for International School Toulouse (1999) and International School History (2007), were built for the history classroom. The third, internationalschoolhistory.com (2019), is still active and sets out my teaching background in full.

Since 2019 I have also been coordinating the IB at Ecole Moser as part of a double diploma programme, in which students complete both the Maturite Federale and the IB Diploma. The first cohort graduated in 2024. You can contact me via the form below.
